Seaport World Trade Center

World Trade Center

Located in northeast Boston's Waterfront District, the Seaport World Trade Center is an important global trading hub for companies and merchants. Its proximity to the Boston Convention and Visitor's Center also makes the Seaport World Trade Center an important regional business hub for local event organizers. The center was originally constructed in 1901 as a landing area for cargo ships that sailed to nearby Boston Harbor. The center was used throughout the 1920s and 1930s as a passenger center for ships that sailed to and from Boston. This trend continued until then 1980s when advances in cargo handling logistics made the area obsolete. To correct this problem, the Massachusetts Port Authority designated two leading developers to turn the area in to the Seaport World Trade Center.

Today, the center is a building that measures more than 180,000 square feet. It includes room for meeting spaces, conference rooms and other useful gathering places. These places include 40 conference rooms, several outdoor meeting spaces, an amphitheater and a 120,000 square foot exhibition center. The center's conference rooms are located on the second, third and fourth floors of the center. They include Seaport Ballroom the Flagship Ballroom and several smaller breakout conference rooms. These rooms are especially designed to accommodate cocktail receptions, smaller seminars and job fairs. They feature built-in credenzas that are designed to accommodate buffet tables, information booths and coffee stations. Many of the conference rooms also feature great views of downtown Boston and Boston Harbor.

The outdoor meeting spaces are generally located between the concourses located in the center's second and third floors. There is also an outdoor meeting space located on the roof of the center. They range in size from 800 square feet to 2,000 square feet. They can accommodate between 200 to 500 people for receptions, wedding receptions, private dinner parties, cocktail parties and other gatherings. There is also an outdoor space called the Headhouse Concourse that is adjacent to the center. It features more than 8,000 square feet of meeting space. It can accommodate up to 700 people for weddings, small seminars and other gatherings. The amphitheater is located in the center's mezzanine section on the second floor. It features nearly 400 stadium-style seats and a dedicated multimedia center that is equipped with the latest audio and video equipment. There is also a 575 square foot stage that can serve as a center for teleconferences.

Moreover, the center's exhibition center is located at Commonwealth Hall near the ground floor main entrance. It is highly regarded as one of Boston's premier trade show locations. This is the case because it features a dedicated parking structure, catering services and several loading docks that provide everything an event organizer needs to plan many types of trade events at once. Finally, the exhibition's square shape allows event organizers to partition the space in to smaller spaces that are ideal for hosting several events at once.

As you can see, the Seaport World Trade Center offers event organizers many options that can help them coordinate trade shows, weddings and other gatherings. As a result, it is easy to see why the Boston Seaport World Trade Center is one of New England's leading convention centers.
