Boston Logan International Airport
Boston Logan International Airport, officially known as General Edward Lawrence Logan International Airport, is the largest airport in New England and the main air travel hub for the Northeast region of the country. Located in East Boston, Massachusetts on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, it is one of the busiest airports in the United States.
Logan Airport, as it is most commonly called, has four terminals; A, B, C, and E. Three of these are primarily used for domestic flights, and Terminal E is dedicated to international flights. It is crucial that Logan Airport has a separate terminal for all incoming and outgoing international flights, since it is the twelfth busiest airport in the United States for international travel. Being on the East Coast, Logan Airport is a common connection spot for travelers from elsewhere in the country to stop before heading on further other points east, including Europe, the Middle East, the Caribbean, South America and Africa.
Over twenty million passengers fly through Boston Logan International Airport each year on average. This high volume of traveler traffic makes Logan a huge player in the Massachusetts and New England economy, bringing in billions of dollars each year. Massport, the company that owns Logan Airport, is a transportation network run independently from the state and local governments, but which aims to enhance the local economy.
Over forty-five passenger airlines offer flights from Logan International, including major international names like Continental, Virgin Atlantic, Lufthansa and Delta, with destinations all over the world on almost every continent. Shuttle flights are also common from Boston, flying to New York City's John F. Kennedy, LaGuardia, and Newark Airports, Washington D.C.'s Dulles International and Baltimore Washington International Airports and Chicago's O'Hare and Midway Airports. In total, airlines flying out of Logan travel to more than one hundred destinations, thirty of which are international.
Boston Logan International Airport is one of the easiest airports to get to using public transportation. Airport shuttles, buses, the under and overground rail system and even water taxi will get travelers to Logan. Directly accessible from a number of major interstate highways, it is also easy for travelers to come and go via private transportation, whether it is their own vehicle or a limousine. Enhancements to the infrastructure of the airport over the last several decades include improvements to the parking facilities and an efficient system of ground floor arrivals and top floor departures for quicker and easier driving around the airport.
